Industrial Door Cost Guide
Compare the Installed Scope Before the Price
An industrial door price is meaningful only when the specification and supply scope are clear. A price per square metre can omit drives, protective devices or installation. Compare quotations for the same opening, duty, performance and delivery basis. Ask suppliers to separate included items, optional upgrades and work that the buyer must arrange locally.
Break Each Quote into Comparable Line Items
- Door assembly: panels or curtain, frame, tracks or guides, counterbalance hardware, seals and finish.
- Automation: drive, controller, activation devices, required closing protection and power-failure operation.
- Project work: mounting supports, electrical connection, installation, access equipment, commissioning and training.
- Delivery: packing, freight, insurance where included, unloading, duties and taxes where applicable.
Know Which Specification Changes the Cost
Size, lift arrangement, materials, insulation, glazing, pedestrian access and operating duty can change the components required. A wider opening may need different reinforcement or a different drive, so cost does not necessarily scale directly with area. Request a base configuration and separately priced options while keeping the required safety functions in every quote.
Expose Gaps in a Lower Quotation
Consider two hypothetical quotes for the same warehouse opening. Quote A includes the door and motor; Quote B also includes controls, required protection, support steelwork and commissioning. Add the missing scope to Quote A before comparing totals. If an item is unpriced or described only as by others, ask who will supply it and when.
Budget for Operating Duty and Downtime
A planning example of 20 cycles per hour, 8 hours per day and 250 working days gives 40000 cycles per year. These are illustrative assumptions, not a product rating. Give your actual peak demand to the supplier and request maintenance intervals, replacement parts and service lead times for the proposed assembly.
For a chosen ownership period, compare purchase and delivery plus installation, planned service, expected wear parts and estimated downtime. State every assumption. Energy estimates should use the actual temperature difference, opening time and relevant performance data; panel thickness alone cannot establish running-cost savings.
Make Export and Delivery Terms Explicit
Identify the agreed trade term, named delivery place, currency, quote validity and payment schedule. Confirm packed dimensions and weight, unloading responsibility and whether local installation is included. Check warranty coverage and access to replacement parts at the destination. Compare freight and local charges on the same basis rather than assuming delivered means fully installed.
Prepare a Quote Request That Can Be Compared
- Send opening IDs, quantities, dimensioned drawings, site photographs, duty, environment and power supply.
- Ask for itemised prices, exclusions, lead times, spare parts and a commissioning scope for the same specification.
- Resolve missing items and approve the final drawing before using the total price to choose a supplier.
